Of all prosthetic tooth replacements dental implants are the closest substitute for a natural tooth. Whether you are missing a single tooth, multiple teeth or even all your teeth, dental implants may be an option for you.
Not only can they improve your chewing and protect your existing teeth from movement or over eruption they can improve your confidence and smile! After consultation with Dr Anderson or Dr Regos in our Sydney surgery and have confirmed you are a suitable candidate for dental implants, you will be referred to a specialized surgeon who will perform the implant surgery for you. After the surgical side of the treatment has been carried out you will be referred back to Dr Anderson or Dr Regos for the prosthetic work to begin.
The dental implant process is as follows:
After your natural tooth has been removed a titanium screw is placed in to the jaw bone. Once the implant has integrated with your bone and optimum strength has been achieved a crown will be made. This will match the color of your surrounding teeth and then be cemented or screwed onto the implant. The time between removal of the tooth, to the implant being placed can vary from immediate placement to six months after removal of the tooth. Depending on where the dental implant is placed in the mouth the time can also vary as to how long it will be before your permanent implant crown is placed.
In cases where it has been some years since the loss of the original tooth or there has been rapid bone deterioration a small grafting procedure may be needed. The bone is often gathered from another part of the mouth. All of this often performed under a simple local anesthetic or another method of sedation if required!
Within months of your first consultation in our Sydney surgery you may have your bite, smile and most importantly confidence as strong as if you had never even lost a tooth!
